Setting Changes
Because this game is moving pretty slowly (what with the large galaxy and slow ship speeds), I upped the settings across the board to "fast." Just FYI.
Operation Loop-de-loop
Let's recap: when I last left you, my armada sat upon a pile of space junk, preparing to make its fateful jump towards a planet, beginning Operation Loop-de-loop, an expansionist bid to increase the size of my empire. The image below, from part two of this War Report, should remind you of my plan.
Launch from Space Junk (1). Capture 2 (defend green Xs), capture 3, capture 4, return home.

Loop-de-loop is a go!
I landed at the ice planet of Tauris. The Game, if you remember, is a colonizer capital ship, meaning it can colonize planets. That move was on autocast, and thus Tauris was immediately captured! Rejoice!

...Wait a minute.
So. See that red circle at the top? That's a ship bombarding my newly acquired planet. See the red circle on the right? That's the planet's health - 58/1500. And the blue up pointing arrows to the right of the planet? Those would be my ships. It's sort of expensive to colonize a planet. I do NOT want to lose it.

26/1500 HP. Gahhhh

Phew. Killed it at 5 HP left... somehow.
I have to admit, I'd be perfectly happy if this War Report had been boring. You know, I play, I conquer, no problems... But I'm very seriously sabotaging myself... And I'm good at it, too! Jeez, first the economy, then nearly losing a planet. But, hey, a little excitement makes this a fun read, I guess. Anyway, Tauris is now secured. It's a very important choke, so I'm making sure to build some ships there... At least when I can afford to. As usual, I focus on research, too.
While I left some of my fleet to bolster the new defenses at Tauris, I've moved forward to LDL stage 2: a dead asteroid named Firneis.

It's got a measly militia of 2 ships, make it an easy kill and capture. As a further thank you to the namer of The Game, Clarinetman, I've named it Clarinetland. I apologize that it's a dead asteroid. Sort of.
War on the Home Front
Well, great. I'm being invaded. Specifically, my recent acquisition Tauris is being invaded. This does not bode well.

The invaders arrive! Marvel at their vast war machine!
Strike that. They sent a single ship... A letdown, really. I sent my ships to counter it, but it did the cowardly thing and ran. I would say crisis averted, but... Yeah. Not much of a crisis.
And my valiant foe turns tail and runs.
In all honesty, I should have probably killed that ship... But I didn't. Oh well. It's not like... Oh, hey, I'm being invaded again. Great.

The massive armada of my enemy.
Yay. Another one ship invasion. I'm realllllyyyyy stretching my imperial might quashing the single ship armies they keep sending... Oh boy. ANOTHER invasion. At Tauris. Maybe that one ship decided to try its luck again.

Yep, just one sh-- waitaminute.

And thaaaat would be an enemy capital ship. Great.
So, as it turns out that invasion is a bit larger... Um. With a lot more firepower. More than I happen to have... Ahem. Forces at Clarinetland? Please please please make it back to Tauris in time. If I lose it, I have my LDL fleet trapped between two enemies, a giant hole in my economy and... Aw, jeez. Why didn't I build more ships at Tauris?

And the cavalry arrives... That yellow mass at the top is the enemy.
And now I can say it - crisis averted. My ships managed to make it back to Tauris. Our overwhelming numbers forced the yellow invaders to turn and run. Nearly go their capital ship, too. Well, we survived our first real test. I'm focusing on creating some more ships to hold Tauris while I move to take the last planet (a desert world) of Operation LDL.
Operation LDL: part 2
My forces return to Clarinetland and push forward to the final planet of LDL - Kaizuka. There's a sizable enough militia there, and I'm forced to retreat one ship, but the planet falls anyway.

And so I end this entry, Operation Loop-de-loop a success and my first invasion averted. My place in this solar system is now secure, and most of the planets to my left are mine. My eyes now drift towards a planet on the other side of the solar system... A planet so secure I have, until now, been too afraid to attack.
But now? Now the time is right.
