Star Fox Assualt

Memory: 7 blocks

Rated: T for Teen

Graphics: 8.5 of 10 / 9.5 out of 10

The graphics of this game were pretty good, considering Fox hasn't had a debut in awhile. It takes the similar graphic scheme of Star Fox 64, but enhances the graphics a little bit and makes it feel more realistic. The robots also looked pretty spiffy. And you can't forget about the Arwing and the Landmaster! They're back and looking better than ever!

Alright, for one, you totally forgot about Starfox: Adventures. I know it was terrible (In my opinion), but at least mention it!

Also, I don't see ANY similar graphics scheme. The graphics are redone and A LOT nicer. There are many varying landscapes, and, unlike SF64, it's not the same thing with different colors. Levels, like Fichina, are amazing. In Fichina, there is an annoying blizzard, which looks REALLY nice. The other levels are detailed and nice. The Arwing and the Landmaster look awesome, but I have no clue about any robots. Any clarification, Kyle?

Well, I guess you have a point. Yes, I did totally forget about Star Fox Adventures. I guess that one slipped my mind. Anyways, I thought Fichina was kinda' hard, seeing as how I couldn't see where I was going. So I do agree with you on that one.

Heh, SF: Adv IS rather... Mind... Slippage. Yeah. And Fichina is my favorite level. >.>

Music/Sound: 9.5 outta' 10 / 9 out of 10

The music is incredible! It has all of those old Star Fox tunes that you remembered in the olden days, but polished 'em up with a little remix techno type thing. It has pretty cool tunes that will surely be stuck in your head!

Alright, I'll say it now: I don't listen to music in games very often (I usually tune it out). However, the music that I DID hear was really nice, but not perfect. The Star Wolf theme, though? Pure brilliance.

Yes, yes, yes. My friend and I were humming it for a very long time.

Control: 8 outta' 10 / 8.9 out of 10

The control seems pretty easy, but it sometimes can get a little confusing whilst in the Arwing. You can do all these fancy tricks and flips, but they also have a lot to do with dodging attacks and evasive maneuvers. The pilot controls are simple. But to help you out along the way, Peppy, the retired rabbit, gives you some key hints on how to do some of this stuff.

Firstly, there are three control schemes. Regular (my favorite), Dual Stick (For FPS people), and R Run (Which is weird). The Arwing and Landmaster controls are simple enough, but can be tricky. Sometimes you'll wish it would be easier to line up a hover in your Landmaster, though. Pilot mode is simple enough, though it too can be bothersome.

It's probably just me, but I thought that the Arwing and Landmaster were the hardest controls of all! It just wouldn't go where I wanted to, or I miss a bunch of enemies, or the hover doesn't go high enough. I end up getting a bit frustrated. Maybe it's just my poor piloting skills. I dunno.

I found the hover to go a little TOO high at points. But the Arwings are cool.

Gameplay: 7 of 10 / 9.4 out of 10

Gameplay is relatively enjoyable, but sometimes can be a little frustrating if you can't find the right things to destroy in the right amount of time. Being the pilots is cool, because you get to experience more of a run-and-gun type of thing. In the Arwing, it's more a space-shoot-'em-up type of deal.

This is where I disagree, Kyle. Sure, the levels where you have a time limit are... Annoying, but they are unique. You see, on certain levels you have a gauge. If the gauge fills up, then you are "overrun" with enemies. To lower your gauge, you jump in your Arwing and shoot down any enemy in your way. It's annoying, but fun. Many other levels have you changing
ships.

The gameplay in an Arwing changes depending on the stage. Some are on rails, while others are free roam. The ground levels (Landmaster Tank and Pilot) are entertaining, but the Pilot levels can be boring as heck. As a Pilot, you are WAAAAAY to fast, which makes it difficult to aim. And yet it's still mildly entertaining.

ARGH! I hated the Landmaster. It's too slow. I like the fast machines! *Choose Falco in Multiplayer*. I think he's the fastest.

The Landmaster is the KILLER of Arwings. I could wreck havoc from one of those in Multi. Oh, and a SECRET CHARACTER is the fastest. >.>

Fun: 9 out of 10 / 9 out of 10

This game is incredibly fun. Some people think otherwise, but I say that it is really fun and you'll enjoy it, especially the multiplayer modes. You choose from a bunch of different stages and you choose from either Fox, Falco, Slippy, or Krystal, the telepathic fox who joined after Peppy retired. First person to kill the other 5 times wins!

I agree. That's all I need to say.

Replayability: 6 out of 10 / 9.5 out of 10

I'm not very sure about the replayability, seeing as how I haven't beaten the game yet, but I think you start out in different modes, such as Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Beating stages in Bronze Mode unlocks new Vs. Mode stages, but I don't know if Silver and Bronze do the same thing, but better stages. It seems like the same game to me, just a little harder each time.

Yeah, Bronze, Silver and Gold aren't very interesting... But the multiplayer! The multiplayer alone makes this game AWESOME! The multiplayer has MANY unlockables. By playing a certain amount of multiplayer matches, you can unlock new characters, new levels, new weapons, and new modes. It's a really fun and rewarding incentive to play with your friends. In fact, I want to TGJT this game. It's great!

I guess I didn't count Vs. Mode as Replayability…but still, the Bronze, Silver, and Gold don't seem very interesting. The only thing that could have been better about this game would be multiplayer Story Mode. That would be the best thing ever.

Yeah, the harder difficulty was more sped up than anything else. And Co-Op? We can hope for next time!

Final Comments

Overall, Star Fox Assault gets a solid 8 out of 10!
I totally recommend this game.

In conclusion, Star Fox Assault recieves a nice 9.2 out of 10!

If you aren't sure, rent it. It's good for the multiplayer gamer.
